Impossible? No. Unbelievable? Yes. True? Most definitely! At a time when religious practice was punishable by death, God chose a simple farm boy to rebuild His Church. None who knew him would have ever conceived that this lad would become the greatest priest of his century! The inspiration came to me, in 2004, as I was preparing to leave Skywalker Sound recording studio. We had just finished a grueling, all day session with orchestra and chorus. My composition, A Mass for Peace in the Third Millennium was “in the can”!
One of my sopranos said, “John, now, you must write an opera about a saint!” I laughed and told her that I could never write an opera; but, I would love to try a musical. I knew, at once, that the saint would be St. John Vianney. (more)
